Ready to take the leap from a writer to marketer? (Self-evaluation sheet inside)

Published 4 months ago • 2 min read

Hey Friend,

If you are reading this, thank you!

It means a LOT to me that you subscribed to my newsletter.

I started this newsletter with only one goal - to empower the writing community!

Writing is the most challenging and creative part of any marketing campaign. And if you are a writer, half the battle is already won. The world is your oyster!

The remaining parts? We’ll figure them together. 😊

So, why should you consider becoming a marketer, anyway?

I am sure you all have your reasons behind this. But let me tell you my thoughts:

“Think like a marketer, write like a writer.” - I strongly stand by it. A writer writes an article, an editor makes it readable and publish-worthy, and a marketer does a little bit of everything.

A marketer understands the intent of their target audiences and their thought process. Accordingly, a marketer plans, writes, and repurposes content across multiple touchpoints to fulfill larger business goals.

Content marketing is an extra feather to your cap. It is a new skill that helps you gain more confidence in your abilities in the era of ChatGPT.

And finally, this might be a bit of a rant, but there have been days when I was made to feel “less valuable” because, to some people, I was “just a writer,” and they thought I wouldn’t understand marketing. That was when I decided that writing was my sole superpower, and I would capitalize on it to achieve new marketing milestones. And we are here today.

But are you ready to be a content marketer yet?

I don’t want to sound rude, but not everyone is ready to be a marketer. And this has nothing to do with the amount of experience you have.

I believe three factors will decide whether you are ready to be a marketer or not:

  • Your mindset - Do you possess a marketing mindset?
  • Your skills - Do you have the basic marketing skills that overlap with writing?
  • Your goals - Where do you want to see yourself in the next five years? (Silly question, I know! But worth asking.)

I have made a self-evaluation sheet that will help you. It looks something like this 👇

Be very honest with yourself and score yourself in the most unbiased way possible.

If you are ready, what’s the next step?

Awesome! If you are ready to leap from being a writer to a marketer, you are at the right place.

The next step would be to read this newsletter thoroughly and deep dive into the world of SaaS content marketing together.
